WHOLLY HORSES RESTART MASTERCLASS August/Sept 2014
WHEN
Starting on August 24th and running for eight consecutive Sundays with one-on-one weekly tutoring, Wholly Horses is presenting our first Master Class on retraining thoroughbreds for a new life after racing.
BACKGROUND
In order to meet the increasing demand for retraining retired racehorses, the Wholly Horses Restart Program is launching the first of its Master Classes in retraining.
When our Restart horses arrive at Wholly Horses they come straight from the racetrack. After letting down and socializing, our horses enter a 12-week intensive re-training program. After careful selection and introduction to their new owners, our horses are ready for a life after racing.
LENGTH OF THE COURSE
By joining our Master Class for two days a week for eight weeks, (Intensive Group Tuition on Sundays + Individual tuition at least one day per week) you will be guided through the careful and rewarding steps as a foundation for developing a new life for these horses.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
A combination of groundwork, softening and suppling exercises, re-mouthing, desensitizing, long reining and all the stages working up to that very important first ride in the bush and starting work in the arena! The Masterclass covers health, nutrition and pasture management and we have some pretty handy horsemen and women coming to give the benefit of their expertise.
You will choose a green horse to work with or you can bring your own horse to retrain. This is an amazing opportunity for those looking for a new horse or those who already have a horse that they wish to start with all the benefits of professional guidance. For those who wish to buy their Restart horse, these horses will be available for sale, minus the Restart training fee.
The Course will cover:
• Body language and getting the horse’s attention
• Ground work, leading and tying up
• Use of hobbles
• Whip breaking, desensitization and use of whips, flags, ropes
• War bridling and coming up
• Mouthing/steering
